Oorspronkelijk speelden de broers samen als &#8217;the Rattlesnakes&#8217;, later werd dat &#8216;Wee Johnny Hayes &amp; the Bluecats&#8217; en onder die naam werden ze ge\u00efntroduceerd bij radio-dj\u00a0Bill Gates. Dat gebeurde door\u00a0Bill Goode, nadat hij hen aan het werk zag op het Brisbane Speedway Circuit. Bill Gates bedacht de naam &#8220;Bee Gees&#8221; en baseerde zich daarbij op zijn en Goodes initialen: BG.
